Happy Birthday to us!

Today we celebrate an entire year of Moonkissed - that's right, a year ago today Hannah was at my house and turned to me and said "We should start a fashion blog"

Not long after this we set up an email address (moonkissed@rocketmail.com) a Twitter account (@Moonkissed_) and the blog that you see before you, and were composing our very first post, which happened to be on the very exciting subject of our recent science exam and the very annoying invigilators.

In the past year we've had exams, prom, left school, started sixth form, bought clothes, tried new looks, read books, watched films, drawn pictures and taken lots of photographs (a lot of them being of ourselves, aren't we vain?)

We've both made collages to represent what we would like to achieve in the next year, both in fashion and life terms:

Holly Are's collage:

  1. Grow my hair - I'm having it cut much more infrequently now, and I hope that by steering away from the scissors I won't have the whole thing lopped off again - I've had short-ish hair for six years now and I'm ready to let it grow again.
  2. Buy better make-up - I always buy cheap nasty make-up but I've started to invest in better quality, The Body Shop do a lovely range and I am determined to find a foundation that I actually like.
  3. Get a job - so I can afford my lovely new make-up!
  4. Decide what I want to do - I have to apply to university in a year so I would love to have a good idea of what I want to do before then!
  5. Make a decision about school - If I should stay where I am, if I should move to college and if I do move, if to carry on with A-Levels or begin a BTEC
  6. Wear more dresses - I have a fair collection of dresses and I love them all but they rarely see the light of day! I really like wearing dresses and I should make the effort more.
  7. Listen to more music - I don't have enough music on my iPod and I can never be bothered to listen to things on YouTube - that must change.
  8. Take more photos - As a Photography student, you would expect me to be glued to my camera, but in fact doing the subject has given me a slight loathing of it, however I used to really like taking photos and I want to bring that enjoyment back to myself.
  9. Avoid sunburn - I get sunburnt so easily (well, I am moonkissed after all) but since my discovery of the amazing P20, I hope to avoid it this summer, fingers crossed/
  10. Draw more - I used to draw loads when I was younger and simply can't find the time or inspiration these days, but practise makes perfect, as they say.
  11. Make more things - I also used to be rather crafty, I would customise T-Shirts and make jewellery, I want to do it more as the achievement when a project is complete is a brilliant feeling.
  12. Bake - I bake quite a lot, but I tend to stick to the same things over and over and I want to be more adventurous.
  13. Enhance my natural colour - I don't want to dye my hair bright red, but I like the idea of using carrot or beetroot juice to bring out the natural reddiness.

Hannah Doubleyou's collage;

  1. I want to have my hair cut and dyed, I'm not sure how and what colour, but I'm gonna do it! I'm really bored of how my hair looks and how unhealthy and unhappy it seems at the minute.
  2. I want to travel somewhere this year. I am a scaredy-cat when it comes to travelling as I get homesick and travelsick haha, but I'm gonna overcome it and go.
  3. I want to be more spontaneous and show those around me how much they mean to me, I need to stop being irritable and start being a better person.
  4. I want to make wishes and make them happen rather than waiting for them to.
  5. I want to enjoy every season of the year and be happy.
  6. I want to grow my own flowers in my garden!
  7. I want to smile more.
  8. I want to spend more time with my dogs as I really love them and they're just so carefree.
  9. I want to perform in front of people, I've been playing guitar for 7 years and I have rarely played in front of anyone except those I trust the most, which makes it all the more scary! This one is gonna be hard!
  10. I want to draw and paint even more than I already do and develop my own style more.
  11. I want to learn how to properly relax and feel at peace to put my anxiety at bay, as it is starting to take over my life!
  12. I want to make my mark and feel accomplished this year by 'participating' as Charlie would say.
  13. I want to become more mature but never lose my childishness.
This is my song for the next year;

Thankyou ever so much for following us, we wish you a year of happiness and prosperity!
You're all wonderful.

In order to survive

I got myself some running gear form the local sports joint today. It is odd how flexible and springy I feel whilst wearing it! It's just so god damn stretchy.

I want to start jogging as I am very unfit. I've never been one to worry about how my body looks, I'm not really bothered if things are smaller or bigger than they should be or whether they wobble etc, (sorry for the horrid image), and that is not about to start now. Because they real motive for this, is that, in the case of some horrific worldwide disaster, like, I don't know, a zombie apocalypse or something, or something more likely such as if I was approached by a man with a Hannah fetish or similar, I'm worried that I wouldn't survive due to my lack of endurance!

I feel that now I have this proper gear, I will be motivated more as I love having things to wear for certain occasions and activities, it makes me excited. I may acquire more and more until I have a selection of lycra based garments that I can mix and match, how exciting!

The top and bottoms of both by Karrimor, the top was £5.99 and the bottoms were £10.99 which is positively cheap next to the likes of Adidas and Nike, £31.99 for some of these legging things! £31.99! Unbelievable. The shoes are my brothers old trainers, that sounds disgusting, but he hardly wore them, they're not grotty or anything!

In other news, I finished the 3rd book in the 'Inheritance Cycle' today and downloaded the fourth one on my Mum's kindle this evening, I really would have liked to have it in the flesh, but I just can't wait! It's such a gripping and interesting story, with so much that is yet to be answered and really great characters, maybe I secretly modelled my running things on the all black suit type outfit that Arya the elf wears.

Wish me luck, I really need to keep this going so I can run for the bus without having a seizure.

Thanks for reading, happy running!

February Wish List

I'm sorry about the lack of posts from me over the last week! I really have had one of the worst weekends ever, and the week wasn't great either, so I really didn't feel like writing or posting much.

In February, I would like to obtain a few items, some of these I have been wanting for a while, others I have only recently found;

An expansion for Skyrim called Hearthfire in which you can build your own homes and decorate the interior and even adopt children, it looks awesome, and is only £3.50 worth of Xbox points! It mixes together my two favourite games Sims and Skyrim.
Am I finally gonna get my ears pierced? Perhaps I am! I was going to get them done last year, but then the dragon earrings in the witchy shop in town were all sold and I lost motivation :( They were very similar to the second picture (but a little bit nicer, even though I love those ones), so next time I'm in town I'm going to ask about them, if they're going to restock them and if not where they are from. Also, there are quite a lot of the first picture sort of earrings around at the minute where it extends to the top of the ear or clips onto it, maybe now it would be more accepted at school if I was to purchase and wear this amazing earpiece! There are loads of variations, gold, black, some with the ears extended, although that looks a little dangerous. The first is £11.00 and the second £6 - £7.

This really lovely dress from Topshop makes me think of warm afternoons outside in my garden eating Italiany bread and olives in a bowl (I don't like olives but it's just imagery). It is £38.00, but I might save for it, or my mum may help me as she normally loves nice dresses haha, or maybe there is a similar one somewhere else.

Thankyou for reading, enjoy the snow and the days off it causes!

Snow fashion

This is my first collage made using Polyvore. Even though it's been snowing for the best part of a week here in Blighty, I thought I'd make a little post on how to look half-decent in the snow.

Ofcourse, the most important thing is that you keep as warm and dry as possible - I recommend that you wear leggings or thick tights under your skinny jeans and wear two pairs of socks (one of which should be thick and fluffy) under your wellies. Printed wellies look really cute and brighten up an otherwise very practical looking outfit - cute knitwear also helps to make the look more fashion forward.

When buying a hat, think about the tones that suit your hair colour! Being a redhead, I tend to steer clear of pinks and reds, and usually go for more neutral tones or a contrasting shade, like mustard.

This coat from Fat Face looks good and isn't too bulky but will keep you really warm, which is ofcourse the whole point.

If you MUST wear make-up (although the cold air will give your cheeks a lovely glow) go for waterproof eye liner and mascara, just in case you get snowballed by some passing Year 7.

Oh, and all credits go to Hannah for our redesign and new signatures and sidebar image!

Photo blues

Today I realised that I have a mere two weeks in which I need to photograph, edit and put together my final piece for my Photography coursework, before I get my exam paper at the beginning of February.

Needless to say, this panicked me a little, especially since in that time I need to:

  • Do a reshoot
  • Do two photographer-inspired shoots
  • Do all four of my final shoots
It doesn't sound much, but when I have to organise people it feels like such a ball-ache. I'm not entirely sure that I knew what I was setting myself up for by doing Photography. But I don't like it, it's dull.

The photographers I have to copy are:

Diane Arbus

And Bill Brandt

Sometimes, I wonder exactly who Miss thinks I know and are willing to let me take their photo.

Sorry for this very boring and self-absorbed post, somehow the more I talk about it, the more I feel like I'm actually doing something about it, even when I'm not.

White spice

The winter period, it seems, is not over yet, I love snow, it makes even the most disgusting things look pretty, well, better at least. If you don't believe me then take our bus route with and without and tell me which one looks more pleasing, I'm sure it will change your mind.

I thought, since I don't have instragram :(, I would collaborate pictures from my phone from the past few months, to summarise everything that has happened - or just what I've been able to take photos of really.

1. The fairy lights from IKEA I finally turned on in my room to signify Christmas
2. 'Enchanted' bubble bath that is so nice and relaxing
3. Josh's Christmas card written and a ready!
4. 'DeLonghi' coffee machine in PcWorld/Curry's, I'm a fan okay!
5. My cat timmy posing rather erotically, 'draw me like one of your French girls'
6. Soooo many profiteroles!
7. The 'No Photography' sign in the Millenium Gallery hehe
8. All the prawns that were in my fish pie
9. How my Topshop jumper looked in the delivery bag!!
10. Me trying on my Dad's war hat collection
11. The tattoo Josh did for me (not real)
12. Me and said Josh when he slept at mine the other week
13. A pygmy jerboa! Adorable
14. Me walking home in the snow today after leaving school early, yay!
15. The telephone box in my village
16. The view from my window of the snowy scene

Thankyou for reading, enjoy the snow!

Wanted: high-waist aztec print bikini bottoms

Whilst searching Lookbook, I came across an AMAZING bikini, but unfortunately when I came to look for it online it wasn't there, so I've had to look elsewhere for a pair of high-waisted, aztec print bikini bottoms. I'm aware that it is completely the wrong time of year to be looking for bikinis but it is never too early to start planning my summer wardrobe, especially if it's going to cost me a lot of money and I therefore need to save myself some pennies.

And so my search began:

Urban Outfitters - £57 (Online Exclusive)
I found this almost-identical two-piece from Insight the Hux at Urban Outfitters. It's REALLY pricey and I'd probably want to change the top for something more, ahem, supportive. But the bottoms are high-waisted and have a great aztec print to them.

Image 1 of Insight The Hux High Waisted Bandeau Bikini Set
£39.50 - ASOS
THEN I found the exact same one is ASOS for much less! Still not enough to be able to justify buying another bikini top, but still significantly less - it's a good job that I was shopping around!

Tavik Tribal High Waisted Bikini Bottoms
ASOS - £38.50
A also found these bottoms in ASOS, there is a matching top available, however I really want printed bottoms and a plain black top, emulating the style I saw on Lookbook. The print isn't as crazy as I'd like, but the idea is certainly there.

Two Seasons - £35
I have to say that I have never heard of this shop, but it came up on Google Shopping so here it is. Once again, I'd be buying the entire (rather pricey) bikini when all I want is the bottoms because black bikini tops are easily and cheaply available from somewhere like Tesco or Primark and since they look no different to any others why bother spending more to look the same?

Currently bidding - eBay
DON'T WORRY, it's new with tags so there's no worry about the bikini being pre-worn, it's just if you're lucky enough to drop on something your size.

So, in conclusion, aztec bikinis are easy to find, as are high-waist bikinis, but throw the two together and there aren't many about. I think I'll just wait until summer.

Shoes of Prey

I found this really cool site whilst surfing the web the other day, it's called 'Shoes of Prey' and you can design your own shoes!

To begin, you go to www.shoesofprey.com, and click the button that looks like this!

You then decide what kind of shoes you want to make, they can be flats, brogues, and any kind of heel, I just wish there was a creepers option, but maybe they'll add one soon.

I chose to design 'flat oxfords', which are basically brogues I believe, and this is what I turned out with...

I was happy to find out you can add a 1 and a half inch platform, which gives a creeperesqe look to them! I used soft or normal leather on the main part of the shoes, and the purple on the platform is apparently silk! Not to mention the vegan leather laces!

They're not great, but it's a start, and if you are struggling for inspiration, there is a 'Hall of Fame' where you can view other designs, there really are some atrocities in there!

I also found a similar site called, www.the-all-in-one-company.co.uk, where you can design your own all in ones (I hate the word 'onesie'), which I am normally not all that fussed about, but you can put ears, tails, feet and mittens on these ones! They are even specified to the sort of animal you want to be, or you can create a ghastly cross-breed like me - The Horseasaur.

Unfortunately for my unemployed and frugal self, the shoes would cost me over £200 (only £179 with the current discount!), and the all in one around £100 as well. Oh well!

I hope you found this as interesting as I did, I love doing online design things like this! Thankyou for reading and have a lovely evening!

Aliens exist

This is it!! This is the jumper, the planet motif jumper! I am happy to announce it has the familiar smell of a new item of clothing that has been worn one too many times without wash.

I guess I'm an alien. I don't seem to have the same perception of what sounds great and what sounds absolutely god-awful as I have found out once again today.

I got asked what my religion was in a hushed voice by my form tutor at school today, and I told her I was agnostic/atheist so I'm probably gonna get kicked out anyway.

Hopefully.

In more happy news I started my final piece for my Art coursework today. I have stained some paper with coffee for the book and sketched out a background on my main drawing paper, exciting stuff! I'm going to very pushed to finish it before February ends though, I'm sure it'll be fine.

This is the song from the title, this is a live version, but it will cheer you up if your day has also made you feel a bit cruddy. What a horrible word, cruddy.

Many thanks for reading!

may the stars watch over you

Atra esterní ono thelduin. Mor'ranr lífa unin hjarta onr. Un du evarínya ono varda.

This is the green velvet dress I said I had got from the charity shop. I want one picture with it first before I make a skirt and maybe a shorter dress from it.

I'm about 80% of the way through Eldest (the second book in the Eragon/Inheritance series) according to my mum's kindle, and this look is really inspired by the elves.

I really like magic and fantasy and mythology, and this is no exception, elves are wise and dignified and graceful, they live very long, if not immortal, lives, respect every part of nature and encourage it's growth, possess great magic, as well as being very beautiful.

'An elf (plural: elves) is a type of supernatural being in Germanic mythology and folklore.[1][2] Elves are first attested in Old English and Old Norse texts and are prominent in traditional British and Scandinavian folklore.'

Yesterday I picked up my space jumper, it's soooo cool, I adore it. Whilst I was in Topshop I also saw some 'William Morris -y' patterned jeans reduced to £15 from £40, which I bought. I will be most likely be featuring them in looks soon.

I must go and revise for the Psychology test I have tomorrow. Thankyou for reading!
